Hello Georgetown community,
We’re reaching out to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help Matty Torgersen and his family, and we need your help!
You may have heard that Matty Torgersen who is a recent GMHS 2022 graduate has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma in his shoulder. He had experienced pain in his shoulder throughout this past basketball season as he was one of the leaders on the Georgetown High’s most successful boys’ basketball team in over 15 years. The pain in his shoulder was initially attributed to an overuse injury on the basketball court. He sought medical attention and was diagnosed with this aggressive form of bone cancer. Matty is scheduled for 29 weeks of chemotherapy, a shoulder replacement, and a radical bone resection.
Matty was tri-captain and a point guard on this year’s Boys Varsity Basketball team and a volunteer referee for the Georgetown boys and girls in-town basketball program for the past four years. Matty has participated in Georgetown youth sports since he was in kindergarten. He was active in basketball, baseball, flag football, and lacrosse. Matty will not be attending UNH this fall due to his treatment plan & impending surgery. He plans to attend UNH in the fall of 2023. We are planning a benefit for the Torgersen family to offset some of the tremendous out of pocket expenses that they are facing with this long battle ahead of them.
