Georgetown Youth Flag Football and the Georgetown Athletic Association are closely monitoring the data and trends associated with the global pandemic and the impact on Massachusetts, Essex County and Georgetown specifically. As Massachusetts continues with it's phased approach to reopening, the Georgetown Flag Football Board has decided to begin with preparations for our Fall season.  All precautions necessary to ensure the health and safety of our athletes will be taken.  GYFFL will communicate at a later date, "RETURN TO PLAY/RETURN TO YOUTH FOOTBALL 2020" guidelines in coordination with our governing body, NFL Flag/USA Football, and CDC, Mass Dept of Health and Georgetown Dept of Health/Georgetown School District.  In the meantime, we will review and implement, as necessary, additional guidelines provided by the National Football League, National Collegiate Athletic Association Football and Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association.  If deemed necessary, we will postpone and/or cancel the Fall 2020 season.

Our Mission
Georgetown Youth Flag Football League (GYFFL) was founded in 2007 by Scott MacDonald to provide an avenue for our boys and girls to have fun while learning and understanding the various skills specific to football, the importance of teamwork and the necessity of sportsmanship. The organization provides a safe, non-contact variety of football to teach the fundamentals of the sport and perhaps serve as the impetus for some players to go on to play full football at the youth and/or high school levels.

Our Affiliations
The GYFFL affiliates all players, coaches, and administrators with the Georgetown Athletic Association (GAA). In addition, as a result of registering for our league, each player and coach is affiliated with NFL Flag program powered by USA Football. NFL Flag is a program of NFL Play60 – The NFL movement for an active generation.

The GYFFL program is also affiliated with the Georgetown Middle High School football program. GYFFL players will have the opportunity toin high school varsity games during halftime, serve as honorary water girls/boys and participate in other interactive programs that involve high school team members serving as instructors, workload permitting.

Our Season
The GYFFL operates from September (After Labor Day) through mid November (before Thankgiving). Registration for our season typically opens mid-summer .

Eligibility
All boys and girls ages who are at least 5 years old to younger than 14 years old on September 1.  Must live in Georgetown, attend Georgetown Schools or have a parent/guardian that lives in Georgetown.  Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.

Practices are typically run in a team format to allow the team to learn to call and run plays without the coaches assistance. Games allow for the players to become independent while on the field executing plays based on coaches instruction from the sidelines.  Playoffs are held at the conclusion of the regular season and a B Division champion is crowned.   Mouthpiece required.
